Murmurat

Nerdy made notable

What the company does
Murmurat (formerly 3Bird Radar Systems) tracks bird and bat movements through radar technology. Energy companies, airports, and infrastructure developers use this intelligence to plan projects that avoid wildlife conflict across Europe.

What designers did
Murmurat owned sophisticated radar technology but spoke like technicians documenting findings. We repositioned them as intelligence providers serving infrastructure decisions. The radar narrative remains identical—the framework changed. Wildlife movement becomes business intelligence. Technical documentation becomes strategic consultation. "Seeing the big picture" emerged as their natural territory—they literally observe patterns others cannot detect.

Intelligence in motion

Murmurat® represents understanding the whole through intimate knowledge of its parts. To our clients, complexities of the sky can be both mesmerising and paralysing, halting investments within unknown habitat. Like in a murmuration, where one influences all, we guide business and wildlife to move forward as one coordinated flow.

What's interesting

Before launching Murmurat (3Bird), the founders had collaborated for nearly 20 years at another firm, building deep professional relationships that proved invaluable when establishing their own company.

What's interesting

The visual identity was designed by our Lithuanian team member, who ironically had a shorter journey to the client meeting than our team traveling from Warsaw.

What's interesting

When we presented the proposed tagline "Seeing the big picture," one of the founders immediately responded that in literally his last team briefing, he had used those exact words to describe the company's mission—telling his team "we need to see the big picture."

What's interesting

The murmuration animation featured on Murmurat's website runs on an open-source script created by an ornithologist.

What's interesting

Bird, bird, bird, the bird is the word.

Designer’s insight

“Murmurat was one of those few projects where you feel what it should be about and what you want, but it's so hard to implement with the right detail. So I had the brand in my head basically from the start, but it took me many days to crystallise it, to make it work as a tool with all the parts running, with all the words making sense. I also think that the name "Murmurat" is absolutely magical in a mature, yet mesmerising way.”

Summary

What is the company's profile

Formerly 3Bird Radar Systems, Murmurat operates thirteen years of terrestrial radar intelligence combined with nine years of maritime operations expertise. They rank amongst Europe's top firms in their field, yet their visual identity conveyed technical competence without corporate authority—a disconnect that constrained business development with major infrastructure partnerships.

Previous internal rebranding attempts lacked the systematic approach we provide. The challenge became translating their technical excellence into brand presence that matched their actual market position.

Murmurat transforms reactive wildlife protection into predictive intelligence systems across energy, aviation, and infrastructure sectors. Since 2017, they have shaped species movement analysis throughout European markets, developing proprietary techniques that capture complex species-infrastructure interactions with systematic precision. Their methodology serves corporate decision-makers managing substantial investments.

What is the extent of tasks

A        Brand Personality (Market Landscape Analysis, Current Brand Analysis, Industry Analysis, Corporate Culture Analysis, Company Analysis, Product/Service Analysis, The Big Idea, Brand Positioning, Brand Strategy, Brand Story, Brand Character).

B        Brand Language (Domain Naming, Slogans/Claims, Key Messaging, Descriptor, Tagline, Brand Tone & Voice, Brand, Brand Statement, Brand Storytelling, Brand Anthem, Brand Sales Writing).

C        Brand Appearance (Brand Visual Identity, Visual Needs Analysis, Brand's Visual Expression Concept, Information Architecture, Functional Design Systems, Brand Art Direction, Logomark, Logotype, Iconography, Brand Visual Architecture, Brand Color Palette, Brand Typography, Brand Graphics & Patterns, Imagery & Photography, Branding Guidelines, Grids, Brand Collateral, Brand Signage, Wayfinding, Packaging Design, Editorial, Stationary, Web & Digital Design, UX/UI Design).

What are the objectives

A        To establish Murmurat as a definitive authority in Northern European eco-tech intelligence, separating their sophisticated radar technology from generic environmental monitoring services.

B        To translate complex scientific methodologies into accessible business intelligence, enabling energy, aviation and infrastructure stakeholders to understand predictive wildlife analysis as strategic value rather than merely technical service.

C        To create a visual identity that represents both radar technology precision and organic wildlife movement, reflecting Murmurat's dual position as scientifically rigorous and environmentally conscious.

How we achieved the objectives

A        Personality: We found their essence in murmurations. Thousands of birds moving as unified intelligence—individual elements creating collective understanding. Their radar work functioned identically. Scattered data points becoming comprehensive strategic insight. "3Bird Radar Systems" suggested equipment provider. "Murmurat" suggests an intelligence partner. The name opened conversations with wind farm developers who think in investment terms, airport operators managing critical airspace. We shifted them from technical contractors to strategic advisors.

B        Language: Their methodology already existed: Detection, Information, Adaptation. We built communication architecture around this natural sequence. Detection captures data. Information processes patterns. Adaptation guides decisions. "Seeing the big picture" emerged as their signature expression. Technical precision serving strategic vision. The phrase captured both radar capabilities and consultancy perspective—detailed analysis as a pathway to comprehensive understanding.

C        Appearance: Visual identity demanded sophistication without equipment associations. Literal radar imagery reinforced contractor positioning. We developed bracket symbols conveying comprehensive coverage—detection extending in multiple directions simultaneously. Murmuration graphics translate natural phenomenon into executive presentations. They function as technical metaphors and visual experiences. The imagery creates genuine wonder while maintaining scientific credibility. The architecture gave Murmurat what they needed—technical excellence expressed as strategic intelligence.
